Loans to interest free cards

A little advice please. I am going through a separation and we are selling our car and caravan (should amount to 15k). This money will pay off some loans that we have in joint names. What I want to do is pay off these loans and put in on a 0% card. I have phoned a couple up and have been told that this is not a balance transfer so I presume that it comes under a purchase? Is this right. I don't want to get into a mess with apr etc!!
The card will be paid off totally as soon as the car and caravan have been sold. And monthly payments won't be a problem.
Any nuggets of wisdom??
Thanks
Bridget

in general you can't BT from a loan to a CC; nor can you pay off a loan with a CC.
some CC do however allow you to BT to your current a/c so you can then use the money to pay the loan off (e.g. MBNA stable of cards)
I can't immediately see what benefit there is to doing the transfer as you will be paying 3-4% in BT fees0 -
You need to specifically look for cards that have a 'super balance transfer facility' - here is a list - http://www.stoozing.com/sbt.php
You usually pay a higher BT fee for a transfer to your current account, as Clapton says often around 4%A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
