Are these really needed when hiring a car in spain?

Any use or is it an extra charge when really not needed.

Can't answer for Spain but in France we hired via Holiday Autos and had a windscreen crack through a stone flicked up by a lorry - would have cost quite a lot (was a couple of years ago, in the region of £100+) for the excess not covered by normal insurance. Fortunately we'd taken a years cover with

well worth it. No problem claiming back the excess we paid off them at all.

We paid the damage excess waiver on a car hired for a works outing last year. It was about £15 I think. A bargain as it turned out as my boss crashed the vehicle. It would have cost £500 otherwise.

If you hire your car from carjet, everything is insured apart from tyre damage. I find carjet to be the cheapest as well.
