That's not too bad for the characturist. I might have a look locally for one, assuming my partner is happy with it. I like the idea of guests being able to go home with something more than a favour.

We decided against the chocolate fountain in the end. I know what goes in them for starters, and strawberries are out of season for our wedding, which takes away from it for me. I'm more inclined to go for a sweetie table; I think it'd be a bit more personal, and probably a little less expensive as well.

I think fireworks are out, and I know sky lanterns are a no-go. Our venue is too close to a motorway, farmland, and a small airport. I am a bit envious of those having sky lanterns, they look soo beautiful!

You've got some good ideas there, ever think of sidelining in wedding planning? :p

Haha thanks, I think 8 months or so of pure browsing for things has got the better of me!
Following on from the magician thing, you can also get one a bit like the charicaturist, who goes round the tables rather than doing a set show that everyone has to watch. Unless you are set against it!
  • Slightly odd one, but how about arranging a Quiz, get everyone together in teams, have a prize at the end of it , cheap and easy, brilliant entertaiment! Also give everyone a chance to relax and enjoy themselves with a drink at the same time. Maybe have some nibbles on the table, or the sweety table as well.

Thanks for all your ideas guys. My other half doesn't want to hire entertainment, and shuddered at the thought of a charicaturist. Ah well, I guess it was never meant to be!

The games and quizzes look like they might be viable, and perhaps a little more money saving.. at least we have a good few months to sort it all out.

  • Hi

We got married 6 months ago and our ceremony was at 12noon in the hotel - wedding breakfast was 230pm and evening do started at 7pm. I got stressed out to high heaven about providing entertainment and finances dictated we had none in the end

BUT - after the breakfast had wound up (430pm), photographers were buzzing about for at least 1 1/2 hrs, everyone was mingling and after the photos we barely had a 1hr head down/freshen up before the evening guests started arriving and it was all go again. Honestly there wasnt a point in the day that felt awkward or empty or lacking something and we only had 40 guests and every one of them said at the time it was the best weddning they had been to in years

I did make sure the children who were there for the breakfast got appropriate favours - colouring books and pencil sets - but the 6 yr old girls seems more intent on nicking all the ladies favours which were miniature perfumes!

Last wedding I went to many moons ago, we all just stood round chatting and drinking, the kids all ran off together and played & just generallly got very mucky. Everybody was happy and the time flew by.

What about sticking a few decks of cards about, there's always a few guys that want to show off their tricks or people can just sit and mingle together over a game of cards.

We'll do that I think, My family are huge card players so will be in their element!

Were also thinking of having the meal - reception at a posh hotel with a spa, and I think the overnight guests get free use of the pool and spa, so a few may go off and do that for an hour or so.

  • We're having about a 2 1/2 hour gap as well. We're getting married at a seaside hotel so thinking of getting more photos or others can go for a walk along the beach if the weather is nice. There's no grass at the venue but there is a large decking area so i'm looking out for giant jenga and connect 4 if i can find them cheap enough :D
