Gap before evening celebration.. how to fill it!?

  • The characturists I've looked at come for around an hour or 2, they are about £250-350. They just go round while evertyone is chatting and do your portrait in about 120 seconds! Then the guests also have something to take home too.
The other half wants to get an adult bouncy castle but I can imagine a big ripped wedding dress!! We have quite a few children there so we need to wear them out!
We were going to have a chocolate fountain but in my opinion it is just too indulgent with all the food that is going to be there. We will be a 3 course meal with mints after, an evening buffet inc. desserts. Some people give sweets/food as favours too so it just seems a bit OTT. I went to a wedding on Saturday and the meals were enough for me!

Depending on venue and their rules, you can do fireworks too. Wouldn't be too costly either. There are also jukeboxes for hire. Check this out: wedding sky lanterns, although not sure on the price of this!
Jugglers / mimes? Cocktail making? Balloon modelers? Impersonators? Palmists? Living statues?
All depends on budget and what you're in to!

That's not too bad for the characturist. I might have a look locally for one, assuming my partner is happy with it. I like the idea of guests being able to go home with something more than a favour.

We decided against the chocolate fountain in the end. I know what goes in them for starters, and strawberries are out of season for our wedding, which takes away from it for me. I'm more inclined to go for a sweetie table; I think it'd be a bit more personal, and probably a little less expensive as well.

I think fireworks are out, and I know sky lanterns are a no-go. Our venue is too close to a motorway, farmland, and a small airport. I am a bit envious of those having sky lanterns, they look soo beautiful!

You've got some good ideas there, ever think of sidelining in wedding planning? :p

Are you dead set against a magician, as I am having one. I wasn't going to as so many of them were 'smug' types that I wanted to punch, :o however I met one at a wedding fair who was really nice, friendly, very funny and approachable. He is doing 3 hours for £300, which covers the 'gap' and early part of the evening do. He does close up magic and makes balloon animals for the children too.

  • We're deliberatley having a break - there is a lounge area with sofas, some people will go up to their rooms and freshen up and/or change, and some with "ahem" amuse themselves.... We will mingle for a while and then go off upstairs and just spend some time with eachother! One couple will go and pick up their children.

We're hoping that because of the set up of our venue people will feel like it's a bit of time for them to relax and chill out for a bit.

Having said that depending on the weather I'm tempted to take my guests for a round of crazy golf, think it'd make for some fun photos! If not I'm just going to take the opportunity to make sure I get to speak to everyone properly.

I love this idea! Games are always a good way to break the ice and gee everyone up after the wedding breakfast and who doesn't love a bit of friendly crazy golf rivalry?!

I also like the idea of a whiskey tasting.

I wish some of the weddings I'd been to had thought about the down time between parties, I hate milling around doing nothing!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Is there a grassy area outside?

I've seen weddings where theres been games of Giant Garden Jenga! It gets quite competitive. I think we're going to have it at ours.
Or how about setting up garden croquet if theres a flat lawn?
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • Is it really anorak- y of me to suggest a quiz or scavenger hunt type game, people have to partner up with others they don't know, or get loads of board games (the fun ones like connect4, operation, those buzz wire games) where evryone can have a laugh, with a wee glass of wine. Speed gaming, the games are on the tables, and everyone has to move round every five minutes and take up the game where the previous players left off! Or start a new game if that would work better?

Or shall I get my coat..........................
