Nationwide Flex Account query

Hi, could some please clarify how I can open a Nationwide Flex Account including a debit card without making it my main current account? I want to use the card for travelling abroad and do not quite understand the text below?
Many thanks
'Nationwide wants you use this as your main current account, yet you can sneakily avoid this by setting up a free savings account at the same time as opening the Flexaccount; its e-saving plus account can be opened with just £1. Then you can just pre–load the Flexaccount for spending before travelling abroad'.

The wording on the NW website application has been changed since the article which you quote was written.
It previously gave the option of stating that you would not be using the Flex a/c as your main current account but would be opening a NW savings account (e-savings can be funded with a minimum of £1).0 -

Just to add that if there is no activity on your Flex account in a month's period i.e no withdrawals or deposits in any month you will not receive a paper statement for that month. :-(0

You can, of course, request a statement from an ATM. It will come in the post and simply say "No Transactions" and display the account balance.0 -
Sorry could someone please clarify is it possible to open the account without it being your main account? Is it still possible to do by opening the e-savings account as it says above that the option isn't there anymore?0

Try it and see. They can only accept or decline.
I opened one for my holidays and I transferred one of my monthly direct debits to it, and have set up a standing order from my main account to pay the direct debit. And I get a monthly statement.
I only put extra money in it when I go on holiday.
