About an hour after the police left a BT van turned up to have a look, but then left again, so I think the police must have called BT rather then VM.0
-
Perhaps BT never reported anything back to the police. I would ring the police again and point this out.powerful_Rogue wrote: »About an hour after the police left a BT van turned up to have a look, but then left again, so I think the police must have called BT rather then VM.
The manhole cover that is obscurred in your picture by the cabinet's cover is the clue. It looks like a standard one that the various telecommunication companies use. In the middle, there will be some writing. As it's cable, I would expect it to say "CATV" rather than "BT" or "GPO". This should be the clue as to who to call out.0 -
Or if you don't want to ring the police, call VM main switchboard (01256 752000) and ask when someone will attend and when it will be fixed by.0
-
So this one requires power? VM surely have an obligation to come out straight away to make it safe, just like a council for a dangerous streetlamp. I presume that the police would have contacted them.
I hope that VM will be compensating everyone. powerful_Rogue, do post a link to the story if this gets into your local newspaper.
Powered only in the sense of the voltage coming down the phoneline from the DA (mux),the TV/BBand side has a Magnavox booster which is boosted by a reverse line power source, again from the DA.0 -

It's cable so the pit cover will either say NTL or Telewest on it0 -

"It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
ah thanks for that. I'll sign up to have a look.
Just got back from work and the engineer that was supposed to attend within 24hrs hasnt as the police tape is still in place. Just got off the phone to VM who said she will book another engineer to attend within the next 25 hours. If the engineer hasnt attended by 6pm the engineer that is booked to inspect my phoneline on Monday will have a look at the cabinet.
I really tried to stress the condition of the box, I even said I would send her pictures to look at whilst talking to me, but apparently she does not have a work email account.0 -
If that does'nt work, say you'd like to speak to the Networks Manager.0
-
Police did a great job of securing that!0

I thought that "CATV" on a manhole meant cable TV, i.e. Virgin Media (ntl:Telewest). It's cable so the pit cover will either say NTL or Telewest on it0
