SCS Farmland

SCS Farmland is a an investment in cultivated land in Argentina. It is through a company called Food Water and Energy SA (FWE) and the returns look attractive.

I would like to hear if others have invested in Green Gold or considered buying farm land for investment and opinions about this. One reservation I have is that the investment not FSA backed and information on the company is very limited. They advertise in a weekly mag, which I read, periodically.

Here is some information on SCS Farmland:

Overview

Minimum investement is £12k

SCS Farmland enables investors to own fully managed farm land and receive a fixed return.

SCS Farmland follows the huge success of Greengold. Greengold was launched in early 2007 and raised almost £10million from private buyers. More than 3,800 hectares of investors' farm land is currently in production - with a proven track record of Investors' returns being paid in full and on time.

Sounds too good to be true, and you know what they say about that. Investors such as Jim Rogers, and Marc Faber are keen on farmland as an investment. I can see the appeal of such investments, but you'd want to be pretty sure about the company you were investing through, and the geopolitics of the country.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I think that your reservations are sensible. If the company is not FSA authorised you are entirely on your own when you lose your shirt ( IMO this is definitely a when, not an if ); information on the company, if it were legit, would be freely available.

I won't name them but at least two of the magazines directed at individual investors have run ads from companies which turned out to be less than honest.

    From your quote -

£10 million in investment fund terms is less than peanuts. Ask Mr Madoff.

This will be up there with ostrich farming. Wouldn't touch it with your bargepole.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
  • Hi,

It seems pretty pointless asking for an opinion about an investment and then no one posting a qualified opinion. These investments have been authorised by the FSA for inclusion in Sipps and if anyone is serious about an investment into SCS they should ask to look at all the due diligence which has been undertaken. I am not recommending this investment but do not trash it if you haven't even investigated it. I'm afraid our investments and savings are not working for us at the moment and in a crisis new innovative ideas are sometimes born. In the next 5-10 years Alternative Investments may become a very accepted part of a diversified portfolio.

You joined this forum today to resurrect an 18 month old thread just to say that?

Do you have a qualified opinion? Have you investigated it? I think it's more likely that you are someone with a vested interest who doesn't like to see this thread appear on the first page for anyone Googling "SCS Farmland", and who wants to put a more positive spin on it...

I can't see any investments where you lose all your money ever becoming an accepted part of a portfolio
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
