BT Line rental @ 14.38 - extortion

hi all, I am shocked having just received my BT bill.
Unlimited Weekend Plan: 12.79 (I think this is the cheapest)
BT Caller display: 2.59 (I always forget to unplug my VOIP adaptor to make 2 chargeable calls)
Adjustment: 0.25
Discounts: -1.25
Total bill: 14.38 (this is just for line rental because all my calls are made via a VOIP provider).
I've noticed Primus is offering a 9.15/mth line rental. What's their service quality? Is it a simple provider swap? Does it cause problems with broadband provider (I'm with O2)
Comments/suggestions are much appreciateed.

You have the £1.25 paper-free discount so your line rental/call plan cost is £11.54 (£12.79 - £1.25 = £11.54).
You don't have to make chargeable calls to get Caller Display free, you can use your inclusive weekend calls for that purpose.
Make a note in your diary to make weekend calls on your PSTN line.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi Pardal51,
You can also get Caller Display free if you order "BT Privacy at Home" this includes caller display and registers you with the telephone preference service to remove you from junk call lists. It's free, but you need to cancel Caller Display and order Privacy at Home instead.
Cheers,
David0 -
It does not seem to be free, at least from this link: http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25504&s_cid=con_FURL_calls_callingfeaturesHi Pardal51,

Its not free you still pay unless you make 2 calls a month0

I will unplug my Voip adaptor at the weekned and make 2 phone calls. Having been really lazy tbh0

Sorry, hadn't realised that, but 2 short chargeable calls each month would be less than £2.59 anyway.0

I cancelled the home privacy thing the other week and they still got caller display even though I got it as part of home privacy and told them I dont want it, this was senior staff I spoke too0

Here's a tip:
If you have a gmail account (if you don't you should), then use the calendar to set a monthly reminder. Gmail send you the reminders by text completely free, so it's a lot harder to ignore them!0
