I use a CF card GPS receiver I got off ebay about a year back for around £25-30 which works fine but adds to the size of the whole unit and depending on placement needs an aerial connected. It's a globalsat BC-307 http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/globalsat-bc307.php although if I was going to buy one now I'd be on the look out for some sort of bluetooth Sirf III chipset like nwmark uses :)

My memory is currently a 512mb Kingston SD card (set me back about £40-50 when I got it, but prices are going down all the time). With Tomtom 5 (updated to latest update and with latest GB maps) and a few other programs, leaves 337mb - so 256mb would work at a squeeze.

For reference the extended battery took nearly 5 hours to fully charge, although registered around 40% charged when first installed. As always the estimated battery hours left (shown in settings -> power) fluctuates wildly and is probably inaccurate but currently claims 28 hours left.

Thanks again to you both – very useful info.

Anewman – have you tried your poundland PDA holder yet? Does it fit?

Not tried it in a vehicle yet. It will hold on to the extended battery bit, but I am not 100% confident it will hold when being moved about. It seems to grip better when it is placed upside down (as the other end of the battery tapers off and has the cut out for the latch to take off the battery). Tomtom v5 can be set to be viewed upside down, so that could be a solution to stop it falling off the mount bit intended for sticking on the dashboard (doesn't use a suction cup but some sticky pads). It also comes with a cigarette lighter mount.

It is also possible to grip at the back of the extended battery horizontally. Again not 100% confident it will keep hold of it when you need it to. But then again for £1... lol

So with a bit of effort/modifications I think it could do the job and ensure your pda doesn't end up beneath the pedals. Maybe a rubber band around it at the top... Hmm sounds like a lot of messing about :)

Niggy, I use a Seidio powered and amplified PDA holder for my 2210.

They are expensive but you really can't beat it.

It's got a built in spearker with volume control, the 2210 drops into the holder like putting it in your desk cradle. it has a GPS hardwired outlet and a power outlet for GPS or mobile

I use Navman SmartST 3 with their Bluetooth battery powered (30 hours battery life) GPS receiver. All very neat, no wires at all as you plug the 2210 into the mount which is fixed to the dash (hidden power cable) and Bluetooth into GPS.

Also have 1GB SD and 1GB CF both free due to the bluetooth of GPS.

No battery problems as the mount keeps the 2210 on charge.

Only problem with the seido mount is with the price you're 1/4 of the way to a tomtom one, which is why I wanted to avoid such mounts myself. Also the 2210 is getting on a bit as a model these days. I hope to buy a new PDA when the next raft of PDA's with the OS *AFTER* version 5 comes out, so maybe a year or two.

hear what your saying but this battery is already half the (best) price of the Seido and there is no advantage to a tomtom, it would really be a disadvantage because of the two units. personally I would never go the tomtom route my pda running Navman smartST3 is, in my opinion far superior and much more flexible.

But I guess if you buying a new PDA soon it makes sence to wait. I have had my kit including seido for over two years now (back when sat nav was rare through Navman smartST1,2&3) and i just can't praise the Seido enough.
