I know many "poor people" who struggle to make ends meet who still manage to run their bank account well, in credit and not go into an unauthorised overdraft. Even if this is the case, there are plenty of basic bank accounts available that don't require credit checks but still accept direct debits.
with respect....just becuase you know many poor people who manage to run a bank account, doesnt mean there arent people without one (as the Treasury's own figures show).
It's not rich people who cant get a bank account, is it?0 -

I cant see why the banks have to differrentiate between a basic account and a standard current account its just a way of punishing those with a poor credit history.
I have a current account with one of the banks but no overdraft, credit facilities and just a visa electron card, so could anyone tell me the difference between that and some of the basic accounts offered by other banks?
There is none as far as i can see so why not allow all people no matter their credit history have just standard current accounts and then upgrade those accounts depending on each persons handling of it.
No bank should be able to refuse to give somebody a bank account but they should be entitled to refuse credit facilities0 -
