In theory you can't claim JSA if you quit your job voluntarily but in practice i know people who have.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

depends what you mean by 'went away' - on holiday? if she hadn't booked holiday time off properly - she's not guaranteed JSA.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Just make your claim & choose your words carefully
-the temp work came to an end.
By definition it's temp work, fluctuates & is unpredicatable.
Although they may ask why you can't get other temp work.0 -
if she left her job by her own choice once she claims they will probably check with the employer for their side of the story and judge the claim from there.0

I totally agree with Peter!
I work in an ultra-stress occupation (I'm a chef) where it is EXPECTED that one day you'll just have enough and leave. During my experiences with the Job Centre, it is more than prudent to say that you were on a temp contract and that it came to its natural end. Otherwise, they begin an investigation and suspend your claim until AFTER they decide - guilty until proved innocent, I'm afraid.
I realise that the 'moral police' on MSE will flash their lights and ask me to pull over, yet in a temporary occupation, whether implied or not, you have to bend the rules to suit.
My justicifiction for it is the fact that the DWP automatically won't start your claim until the fourth working day and also by the illogical rules that state that if you, like me, recieve JSA contribution based (ie you have paid enough National Insurance contributions) you CANNOT claim things like free school meals etc! If you recieve JSA Income based (ie you haven't worked much or not at all - aka 'the lazy brigade') you get entitled to everything. If I had 8 hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend 6 hours sharpening my axe0 -
If she asked for leave and it wasn't granted but she went anyway, that would suggest she left of her own accord.
Don't forget the JC will send a letter to the agency asking the reason for leaving and they are obliged to give them the details."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
Bit more detail ...
I was lucky enough to agree 4 weeks off with my employer to go to Germany for the WC. Partner asked her company and they said yes but no guarantee the job will still be here when you get back ...
Found another temp whilst we were away, come back and no job.
Thing is she's paid her NI her working life (26 y/o) and due to relocation, she's looking for other temp work in a different part of England and just wants a little help (that she is entitled to) whilst looking. Might even be 2 weeks.

Claim JSA immediately. 'They' do not suspend first and sort out later. That has not been the case for some years. As you work, your partner is claiming JSA Conts based only. 'They' may well send a form to the employer to confirm why job ended but any disallowance starts from when the forms are back and gone to a decision maker. Any disallowance is max of 26 weeks or to date job would have ended, if sooner. Not many max disallowances for temp workers!!0
