Sowing veg seed outside in containers?

Hello, I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to advise me on this a little as a newbie veg grower here!
I have got all my containers and multi purpose compost ready to do my veg. I have most of my seeds that I can do indoors sprouting and I am quite happy with what to do with them, so far anyway!
Now though, I have packs of seeds which say to plant straight outside and I am not sure how I do this. I don't have a greenhouse just going to put the containers on bricks on the patio. Do I just put the seeds in as I do for indoor ones? I have got some fleece do I need to put that over? I am at work now and can't remember which packs I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated!:)

You sow same as for indoor ones, but you may be much too early for outdoor sowing, for guide to time to sow, wait till the weeds start growing in garden, then sow seeds

There will be a range of planting times on the back of each seed packet ie mid-March to April, that sort of thing. The further north you are the more you need to lean to the later planting time. You should be okay after this to sow the seeds directly and not need cover duiring the day but if there's a frost at night it wouldn't hurt to pull the fleece over the pots.

  • Thankyou!!! I thought it would be too early but I get a bit panicked as I am a first timer at this and have been scouring I don't know how many books and websites, can't beat experience though and I am very grateful. To be honest, I have so much pricking out left to do with the indoor ones I am very relieved that I don't have to do anything outside yet! Still have to clean out the cold frame as it has been too cold so far. I am from Norfolk but living near Doncaster so it is colder for a bit longer!
    Many thank for your help.
