Connecting Ipod Touch to Broadband)

Help Please. I have a 16gb Ipod Touch first generation, A Siemens SE587 wireless router on Tiscali (now Talk Talk). The wireless broadband works fine on my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop and when I try to connect my Ipod I can get it to acknowledge my wireless connection by name on the network display. (there is a tick next to the network name and the strength bars show full strength, plus there is a lock icon. The strength bar at the top left of the screen next to the ipod name also shows 3 bars.
However when I try to connect the Ipod to Mail a message comes up to say "Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server pop.tiscali.co.uk failed" Can anyone help?
Thanks

You need to enter the Network Key. Without the network Key, the Router will not allow you tu use the connection.
I forgot my Ipod at home, but try tapping on the network in the ipod setting. Somewhere you should be able to enter the network Key. You need to be precise though. One mistake and it wont work.
Just in case: The network Key should be on the back of the router.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for this
I tried to find a place to enter the network key in settings as you describe, but there isnt a suitable entry box. Would appreciate you checking your Ipod at home then giving more info as appropriate.
Thanks

you should just tap your network name and it should pop up with a screen allowing you to enter the wifi passphrase.
however, the tick next to the network name usually means you are connected to that network already0 -

Just a thought; check to see if your wireless router is configured to only accept devices with their MAC address registered. This is an added level of security.
Don't know what it is called on your router, but on my Netgear it is called "Access list".
If it is enabled, you will have to enter your iPod Touch MAC address to the allowed list. You can find its MAC address from Settings->General->About->Wi-Fi Address.

Could well be, but since she doesnt know where to input the Network Key (and I dont mean that in a bad way, cos I had the same problem, when I got my touch), I think thats the problem. I would confuse her with that just yet

Ok:
Settings - Wifi - and simply click on the Wifi Network. A line should appear in which you can enter the Key.
Tried it myself there. See if you can tap on "forget this network" and start over again.
Hope this helps.
