Problem connecting Ipod Touch to Broadband

Help. My Ipod Touch first generation 16gb indicates it is connected to my wireless network with a tick next to the network name (there is also a lock icon) Also the strength bar next to the Ipod name at top left of screen shows 3 bars. However I cannot get the ipod t connevt to Mail. A sign comes up saying "Cannot get mail. The connection to the server pop.tiscali.co.uk failed."
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
