Hope someone can help....I recently did a balance transfer from 2 credit cards, abbey and halifax to Egg. As it happens, when the balance transfer took place, my direct debit was going through as well, therefore I ended up in credit on both cards, Halifax and Abbey. I rang halifax and they said they would make a payment to my current account and thereafter I would be able to close the account, which was great. I phoned Abbey and they have said they can't do this as it is in breach of FSS regulations and they can only make the payment to the source, Egg and that I need to contact Egg who then need to do a Direct Debit Indemnity???
I'm confused as I've been doing the whole Balance transfer thing for a few years once the 0% interest runs out and never had the issue..all banks have just sent me a cheque for the amount I'm in credit for...Hope someone can help me.....thanks
