Question for a plasterer re Artex skimming

Hi plasterers out there.

My House is artexed to death (swirly bark effect) which is quite deep.

Should I...

A: Scrape all back flat then PVA and skim coat (bearing in mind whole house needs this doing)?

B: PVA walls then fill grooves in artex with a backing plaster to bring surface flat then PVA again and then skim coat?

Your thoughts?

  • hi,

cant really help so much as Im not a plasterer but we moved into a house that has your second option done, and the plaster is loose under the wallpaper we put up. Never wish to decorate as I believe the plaster will come off with the wallpaper and leave artex!!!

Upstairs in the bedrooms we done your first option, time consuming and very hard work but better overall job.

    Hope you get sorted!

You might want to consider getting the artex tested for asbestos - apparently sometimes it can contain it. Better safe than sorry.
