Electric meter got stuck!

Options
Our electric account was £250 in credit so my husband phoned up to claim it back. They asked for a meter reading and it turned out the dials had been stuck since our last reading in September!!

The meter has now been replaced last month but we haven't heard back from them about what they are going to do about those months when it was stuck or our £250.

A friend told me when similar happened to her she was told they were not allowed to charge her anything above her usual payment. Does anyone know if this is right? We pay by monthly direct debit and I feel if their equipment was faulty it is their fault and we shouldn't have to pay for it.

They will probably estimate the read based on your previous consumption then bill you.

  • Hi,

cars break down, washing machines stop working, meters get stuck, happens.

They will take your average daily consumption and bill you on that, how long was the meter stuck before the September reading, I think you will come out on the right side.

I think they just charge you an estimate based opon your ordinary reading.

My parents had the wall ties replaced in thier house. Where the gas and eleci meters are it only single skined wall so guess what happened to the eleci meter. Lucky it wasnt the gas or that the guy doing the drilling wasnt killed. Did relise untill one day mum went to take a reading and she noticed the disk wasnt going around.
