Bank Account for Student Loan

Options
Hi I've been lurking around the forum/site for ages but decide to drop in to ask a question :D

I've got my Firm offer but I am unsure about how to go about applying for a loan. I have registered with the SLC but haven't taken any action so far. I know that you need to supply a bank account so would this mean I should apply for a student account now before registering for a loan?

Also how do I apply for the maintenance loan? Is this the same process as applying for the tuition loan?

    Hello, and welcome :)

Apply for your loan ASAP, at https://www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance , just put down the details of your firm offer; you can change them later if you don't end up going to that uni.

As for bank accounts, put the details of your existing current account now. You can change them easily online once you have a student account.

You can't usually get a student account until you have a confirmed place (i.e. after results day in August). So when it comes to that time, choose a student account (most people go for Natwest - free railcard, or Halifax - large overdraft), and you can then change your bank details with Student Finance online.
