Moving from Virgin dial up and email address

Hi,
I've got a friend who currently is using the Virgin.net dial up internet service (yes DIAL UP !) and they have an email address provided as part of this account ending with @virgin.net.
They have now signed up for broadband delivered by another ISP and so won't be dialing in to Virgin anymore via their modem and 0844 tel number.
Does anyone know after what period they will lose their Virgin email address (as they won't be dialing in). I seem to remember with other ISP's when I was on dial up that they had rules that said you had to dial in once a month to keep your account open and keep your email address.

I advise to sign up to a free email provider such as Gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc and you will have an email address for life. I recommend gmail and use it every day both via outlook and via their web interface which is excellent.
If you have a new email address from Sky, O2 or whoever your new ISP is right now you will lose that email when a better deal comes along and you switch to a rival!
With gmail, you can add your old existing POP email accounts so that they are checked automatically and downloaded into your gmail inbox (or sorted into a new folder i.e. you can create a folder in gmail called Virgin).
I think if you wanted to keep your virgin email then you may have to dial-in once per month (this is normal). I would suggest letting everyone know your new email and start to reduce your dependence on the virgin email and move to the free email (gmail etc) and gradually start changing your email address from the sites you use.
If you want any help then let me know and I will help out. I do this every day for my customers (setting up free email, configuring outlook or showing how to use the web interface etc).
This makes gmail very convenient and why it is rated the top email client.0 -
I agree with the above, get a web-based email address such as Gmail.
I had the same problem. I've had a Virgin email address for about 11 years and have been using a wireless router for 3 years. Since getting the router I have been connecting to Virgin's dial up service using a laptop modem every 3 months or so to keep my old email address alive.
This is what the Virgin site says:-Your account is classed as active as long as you continue to connect to the Internet, to surf or check your emails. It can become inactive if it has been 60 days since you last connected, or if you missed a payment.
It looks like you need to make a connection to be able to keep your address.0
