broken memory stick help?

Hi can anyone help? a friend's daughter has a usb memory (un branded) and when they plug it in the pc does not recognise it. It does not work on 3 different pcs. I had a look at it and the USB connection male side is loose.

is there anything that can be done for the child to recover their school work from this usb stick?

  • Probably not, at least not easily if the connector has broken away from the circuit board inside the stick (which sounds like what may have happened here).

Have you tried waggling the end of the stick around to see if you can get a connection long enough to copy the work off?

Crack it open, get some pliers and squeeze the connectors back onto the circuit board

Then when you have transferred all data off it throw it in the bin :)

thanks took it apart and i could see where the connection bits (4 off) had come away from where they are soldered to the memory board. managed to luckily solder it back and it worked!
  • Hi,

good, so as said before, get what is needed from it and dispose of it, before it goes totally bust, and all is lost.
