This is so true, we suffered pretty horrendous treatment when I was in hospital to have my baby, resulting in a lot of distress on our part, and souring of our memories of the first couple of days of our babies life.

We put in a complaint through pals and our pct and have been satisfied with the response, but there is no way I would attempt to sue the hospital for its incompetence.

We are lucky we have the nhs, and of course mistakes happen, but hopefully a reasoned and detailed complaint will do all that is neccesary to make sure it doesn't happen again, suing them and taking their much needed money will do nothing but benefit you.

I agree with the previous posters on this... Make sure the error is highlighted and a complaint is logged so that it is addressed - but to try and sue the hospital? By all means if you eventually want to end up in a situation like they have in the US where only people with private medical insurance can get decent treatment because the NHS has had to be shut down after no longer being able to run because people sue them...
I was engaged many years ago to a paramedic and I personally was qualified (it's all lapsed now) as an ambulance technician and even here in the UK they have to take out insurance to protect themselves against claims of malpractise etc. I'm still insured but because my qualifications are out of date I can't use that knowledge to save a life because if I did then should they sue me my insurance would be invalid if I did anything more than CPR... Would I still stop and help someone in peril... probably... but I can't promise it... After all it could cost me hundreds of thousands of pounds.
    Just a thought...
