hi all,
my father left me and my sister a house in his will. it has been signed over into both of our names and my sister is currently living there while i am living away at uni. she wants to buy me out but we dont really know where to start. she can get a mortgage for the house but we dont know how to go about signing the house completely over to her inexchange for half of the value of the house. do we need to go through a solicitor (having had bad experiences with 1 already)? or can we do it ourselves through the land registry? any help or advice would be must appreciated!

If there is a mortgage involved you will need a solicitor. Find a recommended one and they should sort it out for you.
Have you sorted out where you will live outside term time? Most UK students go home at the end of each term.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Pick a different solicitor, if necessary. But do it properly.0

Yes, probably best to have separate solicitors. Yours shouldn't cost very much as selling is, generally, cheaper than buying.0 -
I never owned any of the homes I returned to, so what's the relevance?
Sister might play !!!!!y and not want you there? Easily happens over an argument.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Bit off topic but if you are claiming any means-tested student finance you are aware you need to declare the property?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Is your sister paying rent for living in your half of the property?0

no im not claiming student loans as am postgrad student and pay my own fees.
my sis isnt paying rent either its been a pain she plays the guilt trip on me.... i have asked for her to sort it by end of march but now shes saying that she wont sort it till end of april so i have asked her for some rent money to help me out as she wants to move her boyf in and it was my dads wishes that if she wanted to move anyone in she has to buy me out. i feel like i cant force her to sort stuff as i get ignored and even my mum doesnt help by being on my side.
thanks for all your advice 0
