La Croix du Vieux Pont- travel from paris

Basically have trawled website after website but can't find information on the buses that run from Compiegne or Soissons or even Villers Cotterets to anywhere near this campsite eg. La fabrique, Vic-sur-Aisne or Berny Riviere. Desperately trying to avoid the 50E :( taxi fare from Compiegne and I would have thought there would be a bus service but all the tourist info sites avoid giving details or else they are in french which I can't understand at present. Anyway looking for cheapest way to campsite from Paris, for april as can't afford taxis of 110E  or dearer, so any help appreciated:)

Having been to this campsite have to say its in the middle of nowhere - its about a 5 minute drive to vic-sur-aisne which is a very small town and about 10-15 minutes to soissons which is the nearest town.
I don't know if it helps but they do run a coach day trip to paris so it may be worth phoning them to ask if the coach would just pick you up at the end of the day if they aren't full - not sure what days they run or how much it is. We booked with siblu who were very helpful on the phone but there are various other tour operators on site.
Its a lovely site by the way!
  • Thanks, I was thinking of asking them about the possibility of this but it would probably cost 60E, however if nothing else is forthcoming I may well try this option.
  • I have been here too & agree it is in a very quiet village. I do remember a train track though, so if you are feeling brave enough to face the french rail system that could be an option?

Not that there is anything wrong with the french rail system in itself - it just that unless you are a good french speaker, it is really confusing (or maybe that's just me?!!)

    Hi there

Unfortunately there are not many buses into the village. From reading the timetables it appears there are 2 in the morning then 2 in the evening. You should be able to get a bus from any of the train stations mentioned to take you to the main road but then it is a long walk to the site and I would not recommend you walk it as some of it is on the road - if you have young children this may not be a safe option.
The site can arrange a taxi for you but this will of course involve a cost although I'm not sure how much. Sorry, but either way if you are not driving, it is going to cost you at the least, a cab fare.
The suggestion of calling the site by gill about asking the Paris coach to collect you sounds good, however, I can tell you that this coach doesn't start its journey back from Paris (or DLP) until at least 20.00 hrs plus it doesn't come through the main towns such as Compiegne or Soisson

How are you getting to France initially?

Does it go via La Fabrique? I suspect this bus will go along the main road, as there are very few into La Fabrique itself, leaving a very long walk that woud be quite hary if the OP has small children
Timetables for the Aisne area can be found here http://www.cita.asso.fr/

why are you going from Compiegne??
  • Hi everyone, I haven't checked this thread for a while, anyway the crux of the matter is this, three of us are going on the 30th April until 3rd May. Booked on newspaper thingy thinking there would be transport freely available, anyway now have bus timetable for Aisne, it is a 20 min walk which suits me as I hike a lot. Trains from Paris to Compiegne or Soissons so this is reason for needing Compiegne. Haven't driven for a few years so driving abroad out of question and beyond budget as well. At moment it is just a matter of timing things right in order to get to bus stop on time. I did think about a taxi but when I emailed a local taxi company they wanted 60 euros from the train station in compiegne which is a no go. Using airmiles to get to Paris initially. Anyway thanks everyone for the input very helpful.
  • Great! If you can, try and see if Villers Coterets is an option for you. This station is closer than either Compiegne or Soisson which may make a cab a little more affordable?
