That appears because you don't have Microsoft Word installed on your computer.
You could try opening it with Wordpad, however it would be a bit crappy
You can install OpenOffice which will allow you to open this type of file and work with it

Or because you do have word, but it isn't actually a word file. (i.e. could be a virus or something in disguise)Marketing and web design guy. FIRE enthusiast.0

It's most likely they don't have word, that site appears when the program to open that file extension isn't found.....
The only way a virus could affect it would be if it naffed up the extensions for opening .DOC files, if that's what you mean my apologiesOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

It is. Sort of.
I meant I've seen viruses disguised by putting the .doc extension on the end of them (even though they are .exe)
I just assumed that the homealone would have Word as they knew it was a document.
I guess I should never assume! .....Marketing and web design guy. FIRE enthusiast.0 -

I know what you mean now, quickest way of checking this is by enabling hidden file extensions.
Correct about assumptions, however you're correct to err on side of caution.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
