I think the OP is following your instructions so 99%+ of the post was spot on and useful too.My bad, never really pay much attention with computers. I just like fixing them
I assume that the file names get put in the clipboard but there is no way you can get any data from it - you can't even paste those names into a text editor.0 -
also be mindful not to copy/download or install anything to the drive you 'cut' them from or you risk starting to overwrite them and make some of them permanently unrecoverable.
Do all that to either a different hard disk or USB drive0 -
Right I've done the rescue scan as Lil306l suggested and it's not brought any of the files up. I've found 1000s of other old piccies, but the lost ones are no-where to be seen :-( I've just read JasX post and I've downloaded things from my camera since, so it looks like they've gone for good. Can anyone else suggest trying something else? Would it be worth trying to recover from the memory card?Starting again and working towards our new df life!A very proud forces wife0

OP, for future reference what you should have done is copy the data to your backup, not move it. Then only when you have established that the backup is OK, you can delete the original.
But even this method mean that you only have one copy, so you really should be keeping a proper backup, i.e. at least two copies each on separate media.
Sounds to me as though you never actually burned the images onto your CD/DVD in the first place.
I assume you have tried checking the disk on another PC, in case it's just that the CD drive has failed? No free lunch, and no free laptop

You didn't answer my question about what happened with the target drive. If the photos were copied to it but you formatted it after (which is how your first post reads) then there is an excellent chance that TestDisk (link in my earlier post) will be able to recover them so long as the disk hasn't been used since.herewegoagain2010 wrote: »Right I've done the rescue scan as Lil306l suggested and it's not brought any of the files up. Have just successfully used this to recover photos accidentally deleted from a memory card in a digital camera - thanks for the tip!Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0
