My messages stopped coming through today and I kept on getting this when it stopped...................................................................................................(Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.onetel.net', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F)
And I haven't had any messages through since.
Every time I click send/receive, it starts and suddenly shows this message.
I've restarted the computer etc............Not a techie..............Don't know what to do next.
This has been going on since lunchtime.
Please help.
Thanks

bloodnok,
The section in the error that caught my i is:
"Server: '127.0.0.1'"
This would suggest to me that your email is getting filtered through
an external spam and/or anti-virus checker. Is that correct ? If so
is it working ?

Are you running any email scanning software, e.g. Norton? 127.0.0.1 is an internal IP address on your computer and is used by such scanning software to filter outgoing and incoming emails before sending/receiving to/from the real POP3 server at your ISP.
Try disabling the email scanning and/or restart your computer.0 -
It's a Dell computer with McAfee on it.
The Spamkiller just seems to put them in a Spam folder and the others come in the inbox.
Every time I've clicked the send/receive in the last half hour, it says receiving 2 of 5 messages and stops and shows the message I posted.
But the 2 messages it retrieves out of the 5 come up duplicated 5 times for one message in the inbox and 5 times for the other message in the Spamkiller folder, this is now happening all the time0 -
Hi there, it's your spamkiller that is at fault. Through Spamkiller your email is collected through their server - IP address 127.0.0.1. The problem is that your Outlook cannot connect to the Spamkiller server for some reason or other. I have the exact same problem this morning and have had it many times.
If you want to bypass the Spamkiller server you have 2 options. The first is to remove Spamkiller which will revert your OE to look at the normal server provided by your Internet provider. The second way is to manually point your OE to look at your Internet Provider server however, you will need to know your incoming mail address - something like "pop.dsl.pipex.com" in my case with Pipex.
In OE go to:
Tools
Accounts
Mail
Select the Account
Properties
Servers
Change the Incoming Mail (POP3) from 120.0.0.7 to the correct name
Apply
As I said this happens regularly to me so you may have to do this several times.0 -
MS article How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express says one of the causes for error 0x800CCC0F is a damaged email on the server. Duplicate emails is one symptom of this. Try logging into your Onetel webmail and deleting any spam/bad emails there.
If that doesn't work, turn off Spamkiller and enter the correct settings in Tools - Accounts - Mail - pop.onetel.net - Properties - Servers. The server settings are listed on http://support.onetel.co.uk/index.php?page=159.0 -
Thankyou Brunlea and Chippy.
I did that and the messages came through straight away.
Do I turn the Spamkiller thing back on again or isn't it worth it?
Thanks all for your help.
I'll be able to understand this computer one day !!!!!!!! :beer:0 -
Hi Brunlea, and anyone else who can help.
As you said it's happening every time I turn the computer on now.
This morning it said receiving 2 of 8 messages, then cuts off and gives the same error message.
When I fixed it as you described , it said no new messages.
This has never happened before I asked for help the other day.
Is there any way of stopping this permanently or do you have to live with it ?

Any ideas to stop it for good ?

Before disabling it altogether, search for your problem on McAfee forums. For example, this thread tells how to configure Spamkiller correctly ->> http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=2990560
