I currently have the British Gas 100 policy and they have sent my renewal and increased to £18.22 (from £14.06) per month
Looking around I can get comparable cover at £7.99 with Homeserve
However with my Home Insurance with Asda I have Home Emergency cover which covers things like boilers, heating, electric etc
Is this the same cover? And is it worth be having a separate item?

look at the small print for the Home Emergency cover, I think it will require you to have had your boiler serviced in the last 12 months.
Also note the BG do a flexi option where you pay less £ a month but if you need a repair it is £50 per repair.0 -
Agreed, read your T&Cs, likely it will only cover a complete breakdown of your heating system and have a very small cover limit, meaning an substantial excess if a big repair is needed. HomeServe and BG policies cover for a wider range of problems.0

The two above are correct, if you make a claim they will ask if it's been serviced, and could ask for the bill to prove it. Something else you need to be informed about, if and when you make a claim on the phone... Act dull, don't say I have approached so and so to repair it, or I tried to do it myself. Because then they will tell you it's no longer an emergency. Like I said act dull and tell them you haven't a clue, that's why I have emergency cover. The above method worked for me, they were there in 24 hours and did not cost a bean.
My friend, a school teacher, an honest school teacher told them all I told you not to say, and that's what they said to him no longer an emergency. They did get someone to repair it, however it cost him £80 odd pounds.0
