Help - Sold Spain Home - Bank Charges

Hello,

I am on the verge of selling my Spanish property which is breaking my heart, but these airport scanners are really the last straw and my traveling days look over.

The estate agent are going to take 3%, the lawyers charge a fixed fee.

The bank transfer is what worries me, I have heard the Spanish banks would charge me around 3% to transfer the value of the sale (Euros) over to my UK bank account.

Is this so? If anyone could suggest the least expensive way to transfer around 100k Euro to a British bank account I would be very grateful for info.

  • Have a look at an FX trader, someone like www.currenciesdirect.com ( there are others, so try a google search )
  • I've used XE Trade, there are plenty of other currency brokers too - forex.com, HiFX. Basically you will transfer your money into one of their Euro accounts, then they will transfer it in pounds into yours.

Why not ask your own Spanish bank rather than go by what you've heard?
I know for a fact Santander used to charge me a fraction of that to transfer large amounts of money. Do you have a Solbank branch where you are? They charge a fraction of that too
  • Have you seen the latest on the body scanner situation?

If this happens, perhaps you may want to hold onto your Spanish property after all!
