Abbey/Santander Bank Account Interest Rates

Hi Everyone,

Around 18 months ago I opened a new current account with Abbey. I got the £100 incentive to switch, which puts the account in the prefered overdraft option. This means only earning 0.1% interest on the account.

I was under the impression from reading previous posts on here that after a year I should have been able to change to the 6% in credit option.

Today I went in to the branch to do this and was told that the 6% interest rate is only for newly opened accounts, and I could only change to getting 1% interest.

Does anybody know if this is correct???

we had a normal joint account and last week we were asked if we wanted to change our account to the new 6% one and did so with no problem

only thing is i think theyve put us in the preffered overdraft one by accident

They dont know their whatsit from their elbow. However the Zero account will be offered to investment customers as well as mortgage ones from the 1st of March. So all you lovely people with GGP and GCP can get a slice of the action!
