Help, the family is looking for answers???

We as a family are trying to come up with a solution to a problem, my dad bought a 2nd property last year for 140k he wants to sell it to my brother for a knock down price of 100k which anyway you look at it is tip top but he is in a mucking fuddle as he wont seek any advice how to go about dealing with the problems,

1, If he sells to my bro for 100k it wont be fair on me, the suggestion is he gives me 15k, which I hate to say it that does not sound fair on my part!

2, My bro does not seem keen on the idea he seems to want to have everything gave him on a plate.

These are a couple of problems that we have come up with I have loads more but any comments, feedback answers solutions etc would be grateful,

I am in the process of buying a property myself otherwise I would have gone halfs with my bro but again all I can see is problems with that solution!!

Is this for real?? You want to use MSE to moan about how unfair it is that your dad wants to sell a house at a knock down price to your brother?

    I despair!!

Let your father and brother get on with their lives while you get on with yours.

I think there is about a 50% chance that this is a genuine post.

I'm hoping it's 0% - otherwise we have another example of the "woe is me" society we are building.

Perhaps your Dad likes your brother alot more than he likes you. I can't understand why.

how much has the house dropped in value during the year?
which anyway you look at it is tip top yes i'm sure it is for your father, as his CGT losses can be rolled forward for future use.
but he is in a mucking fuddle as he wont seek any advice how to go about dealing with the problems, what problem? what muddle? he wishes to sell a house he bought not sure how many questions can be raised or answered on that subject.

1, If he sells to my bro for 100k it wont be fair on me agree with bryanb why does it have to be fair on you?, the suggestion is he gives me 15k, which I hate to say it that does not sound fair on my part! you don't want 15k for doing nothing - not very money savvey.

2, My bro does not seem keen on the idea he seems to want to have everything gave him on a plate. sounds like you do too.

These are a couple of problems that we have come up with I have loads more but any comments, feedback answers solutions etc would be grateful,

I am in the process of buying a property myself otherwise why don't you buy your dads 2nd property then?
I would have gone halfs with my bro but again all I can see is problems with that solution!!
why can't you go halves still? buy it for 100k with your brother and both live there.

I think the perfect solution would be for your dad to sell the house for less than market value to someone not related to him then there won't be any favouritism.
  • It seems neither your dad nor your brother has a problem - it's you!

re your fathers CGT, he will have problems if he is not selling it to your bro' at the real market price becuase he is selling to a "connected person" and will have to pay CGT on the market price decided by HMRC not what your bro' pays him.
