no Electricity bills

I'm with BG and I get charged for my gas, but I have never been charged for electricity. I'm moving out in the near future and I believe this is going to cause me (further) headache. I believe the confusion is relating to the change of suppliers. I changed from E-On to BG. Before this though, E-on changed the meter from a card meter to a normal meter.

the transfer went smoothly and I received my first (hefty) gas bill from BG but no electricity bill.
After a while I phoned them about a gas related matter, and they were skimming through the details, and they mentioned I was on a card meter... I have a feeling E-on failed to update their records in time before the transfer.

When I leave I'm expecting a huge bill to land on my doormat, no problem, as long as they dont expect it all back in one go.

Where do I stand? Is there a 12 month back billing regulation? Will I expect the whole 'Debt collectors banging on my door' type thing.

I also don't want my current landlord to be harassed by them either so they will be aware I'm changing address, but as far as they are concerned I'll be going from card to normal meter.

Any advice on what to expect and what they can/can't do?

The back billing rule will not apply as BG are working on the info given to them. Please call with the meter serial no and a read and also if the engineer left a card with date of exchange and readings. Also if you took a reading when you changed supply. This will normally be resolved within 28 days after it is raised with the industry. You will then be given time to pay.

I didn't take a reading after I changed supply as they didn't ask for one, and they replaced my gas meter from a card to a normal meter so they were on all 00's.

How will they work out how much electricity I've used with no initial reading to start with?

Hi morrit - There is indeed a "No-Backbilling-beyond-12 months-rule", but it doesn't just rest on not getting any bills - You as the customer are supposed to have made some effort to get bills.
You don't give the time scale over which this lack of billing has been going on, but BG have a duty to read your meter at least every two years, which they have not done

If you want this matter cleared up prior to moving, there is no alternative but haress BG until they do issue a bill, which you should insist follows all the tariff change periods that there have been since you started with them, and has an accurate final meter reading.

Once you have the bill, then it's up to you as to wether or not you challange it under the 12 month rule
    Good Luck

I'll hold my hands up and say I haven't chased it which is why I anticipate a huge bill... it's been about 14 months since I started with BG.
Just as long as they don't expect me to go onto a card meter, to pay it in one go or overcharge me then I'll be happy...

sorry, one last thing, I think E-On will have some explaining to do because they were billing me before I changed tariff...
