Dead X Box 360

I purchased for my son from game.co.uk in early March 08 an X Box 360 Elite with two games for (gasp) £309.99. The X Box has died. I have had similar problems with X Boxes that have died at a similar age which were bought for my other two sons. To be honest I wasn't aware of the Sale of Goods Act, items lasting more than 3 year (or 6 years depending where you read) etc etc, so have always simply replaced the item (what a fool I was). I have contacted Game this morning to enquire how to return the item, but not mentioned the Sale of Goods Act at this stage : wanted to see what they said first. Anyone got any ideas on how to approach this when, and I'm sure they will, say the item is now outside their twelve month warranty.

From previous threads, I've heard Game are pretty good when it comes to out-of-warranty stuff.

Depends on the fault, though: Microsoft put a 3-year warranty on the "Red ring of death" fault, so you may be in luck.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • Microsoft cover units for 3 years for the red rings of death fault. If that is the case go to http://www.xbox.com/en-IE/support/ and fill in the form on the link 'book a repair online'. They will send or email a pre paid sticker for you to send back the console at no cost to yourself and courier it back when it is fixed. Mine was done 2 years ago and I have had no problems since. Took about 10 days.

So does the Sale of Goods act cover something like an 18 month old Xbox 360 that has an error NOT covered by Microsoft's extended warranty?

Surely we can expect an Xbox 360 elite to last more than 18 months?
Yes you can but the onus is on you to prove that the problem is due to an inherent manufacturing fault.

Elites are really just the arcade system with a big memory attached and coloured black, all the 360's are covered in the same way i think.

What is the fault? If it is the ring of death, as others have said, Microsoft have announced that this is a known fault and replace the machines quite fast. It happened to me, and all I had to do with phone up, carry out some tests, and then an exchange was completed by post within a few days.
