The city is a great place for young people. Transport is good, nightlife is excellent and there is even a temple to the God of shopping (at Meadowhall) if you like that sort of thing.

Where will your daughter be working? What sort of property is she looking for?
I can give you a run down on areas and likely rent.0 -
thanks rosie,
she likes that sort of thing,
she's away until tomorrow night,i will ask her and let you know.
just worried she will end up working all month and nothing left at the end.

Let me know what area she'll be working in, and I'll give you some ideas of where might be a good place to live. Will she be driving or using public transport? The trams are very reliable, buses to most areas are also good.
We have friends coming to dinner tomorrow but I'll be online later on in the evening, just ask me anything you need to know about the city.0 -
hello rosie,
i spoke to my daughter, she will be working on kingfield rd of eccles hall rd.

Oh, lucky her working near Ecclesall Road! Best shopping street in the city, lots of independent shops as well as the usual chains. Unfortunately, the local prices reflect the popularity of the area, it's also a popular student area as it is walking distance from several university buildings and several hospitals. The trams don't go along Ecclesall Road but the area is well served by buses, and it's about a 30 minute walk into the city centre.
Hunter's Bar will be the closest area, also look at Nether Edge, Psalter Lane, Kenwood, Greystones, Broomhill, Bingham Park and Sharrow. Abbeydale at a push, though there's only one bus an hour to Hunters Bar (could walk or get two buses). Broomhall (different from Broomhill!) and parts of Sharrow will be cheaper but less "nice".
The best way to get a feel for prices is to log on to https://www.rightmove.co.uk and put S10 or S7 in for rent.
I've just had a look on Rightmove at what is available and there are several suitable flats within easy reach of Kingfield Rd.
I'll send you a private message!0 -

OP: Your lucky daughter! I got a job in Sheffield when I graduated a few years back and spent 3 years living there - loved it!
I got the Sheffield Star and the Telegraph sent to me (phoned the company and pre-paid over the phone to get a few copies sent up with the property pages in) before moving up there to find a place to rent.
I worked at the opposite end though and would only repeat what rosysparkle's said, but as S7 and S10 are student areas as well rents will be dearer and I found less choice for a single person. The other thing with Sheffield is that you rarely hear people talk of the areas they live in - it's all about your postcode (and there is a bit of postcode snobbery that goes on from what I recollect. I was in S6, but the nice bit!)
If she's on a graduate scheme - the big companies usually offer to put people in touch with each other to share houses - a great way of making friends - is there a possibility of that happening?0 -
A lot of postcode snobbery!
(This post is really just to admire your Magical Trevor pic).0 -
thank you all for your replys,
what she intends to do is contact the universty tomorrow and try to book into the halls of residence for a month untill she finds somewere to rent.
the job starts on the 24th so hopefully she can get it sorted this week.
