VENT: Halifax Ultimate Award Account

I signed upto this current account for the phone insurance and other benefits. I mentioned to branch at the time that my phone was 2nd hand and was purchased off a friend last year for cash. To which I have no proof of purchase due to this. The phone is not stolen and I have the original box etc. THe branch said you dont need this, they go by the imei database, if you have the phone and you make a claim for damage and the phone hasnt previously reported as lost/stolen then it doesnt matter if you dont have proof of purchase.
Anyway my account is set up and I rang the rewards helpline to register my IMEI number, they registered the phone and then said that if you want to claim you will need original proof of purchase... which I dont have.
So question is... what can I do other than cancel the account because the only benefit I will really use is the phone insurance as I dont have a car or use a car so that is not beneficial to me.
Its a current account that you pay for each month.
Thanks

Are you still in your cooling off period to cancel?
There are other benefits to the Ultimate Reward if i remember correctly.
There is free home emergency cover up to £250.00 per incident.
Free travel inurance and also 15% off your house insurance if you are with the company.
If you're not happy with the benefits then just close the account.
You should have been given correct info at the start but its so typical and i think that some staff will say anything to get a sale!!(c) Broke in Yorkshire. ( there are worse places )

Right.
Not much point in carrying on with it then.
Especially since it carries a monthly fee.(c) Broke in Yorkshire. ( there are worse places )

I know its not good is it, I can change it to a normal account they have said or take the risk without original proof of purchase.
In fact the call centre said that if I can get a hand written receipt saying I bought the phone with the date and imei then its possible this will help the claim!!!If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0
