Ford Warranty Confusion
We have a Ford Fiesta which was purchased from Evans Halshaw in Oct 2008. The car had 2,500 miles on it, and had been registered in Jan 08 - from memory I think it may have been a demo car?? It does not have a previous owner on its log book. Not sure whether this falls into the New or Used car bracket?
The car has a manufacturers fault - some sort of hole in the bodywork that has been letting in water which we only discovered when we put a foot in soggy footwell! Assuming that all new cars have a 3 year warranty I thought that it would still be under warranty. However, after checking the docs, the service book that comes with the car states that it is only covered by a 1 yr warranty (starting from registration date). If this is true then it is now out of warranty.
I thought that all cars had at least a 3 yr warranty these days. We called Evans Halshaw and they did say on the phone that it should have a 3yr warranty, and they booked us in to fix the problem. However, when we took the car in they told us it was only 1 year and so we had to cough up £200+ for the fix.
Can anyone help to clarify the warranty situation please? We seem to be getting conflicting information.
The car was sourced by my hubby and I for my elderly mother who wanted to switch to a more reliable car - I am sure that we would not have settled for a 1yr warranty (of which only 3 months was still remaining) - although I cannot exactly remember what was discussed when we bought it.
I've checked the Ford website and they suggest that 3 yrs is the standard for a fiesta - 1 yr base warranty and then 2 yrs Ford Protect warranty - but is this included as standard or is it an optional extra?

a friend has a 2 year old ford ka 08 reg i believe developed a leak into the boot
they was told the warrenty does not cover leaks and had to pay £400 to fix it0 -
Having had a look at their website and the first year is a manufacturer warranty, the next 2 years are a fordprotect dealer warranty.
A lot of manufacturers will state that the additional 2 years need to be transferred with them.
I wonder if this is where you went wrong.0 -
Contact Ford customer services and ask them if you're covered.0
