Cop Program

Options
Just watching Cops, Cars and Criminals they are doing ANPR traps. The traffic officer has pulled someone over who just brought the vehicle that day and he is driving it under the previous owners Any Driver Policy. The police officer has just told him that for him to be covered by the previous owners any driver policy he also has to be covered under his own policy...

She is a bit confused and has not picked up that it is a van!

He has just shown her his uncle's motortrade policy and she is intelligent enough to know that this does not cover him as he is not a motortrader (He told her earlier) and it's his uncle's motortrade (He bought the van for himself).

She even made a big play to camera how he needs to be covered by his own policy for driving other cars to be covered by the other drivers any driver cover...

They have probably seen a policewoman on tv talking about it, we'll all probably have customers ringing tomorrow asking if they have to check whether the drivers driving their vehicles on their any driver policy have to have their own policy with driving other cars.

If you did not know that the cop was talking bull you would believe her as she said it with such authority
  • these coppers think they are above the rest of us and think they know how insurance works... It is so funny when I tell them no its like this then they say " I'm a policeman" then the fax comes in wanting statements oooh they do love their paperwork if they cant get their own way!!

Could it be argued that as the van was now owned by him (which he stated), the previous owner's insurance was now void as they were no longer the owner? (When you insure a vehicle I believe they ask who the owner is). I understand the WPC was wrong but trying to look at it from another angle :)

Even with that arguement the advice the wpc gave was wrong as a) the driving other cars is for cars not belonging to you b) Driving other cars does not cover vans

Here is the first question from an MSE member as a result of this policewoman's advice on that program http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2291429

As the pervious owner is no longer the owner surely his insurance is no longer valid. So the new owner can not be driving on his insurance?
