Right - missed remortgage payments are not "only". It is quite a big deal. I would wait for 3 or more months, keeping up with all the payments perfectly.

Credit (or any other) card companies make their decision based on your history - how well are you managing your debt (and then on your overall stability - such as lenght of time in a job, at your current address etc). If you had some missed payments this is not reflecting well on your ability to manage them.
  • I dont like the look of some reviews of the MBNA Platinum that they up rates afte rou ave one and such

Each MBNA and Virgin have their own range even though the money come from the same source.

What are you looking for? Can you give us the whole story? You just keep going on about something and expecting us to see into your head to see what you mean and what do you want to do with it.

Tell us - what are you after? Balance Transfer? From which card? And what other cards do you hold? (because for example you cannot transfer balance from Virgin to MBNA or other way round, because as already said they are from the same family).

Yes Natwest did computer search in bank when I wa there refused and gir said they have to wait three mnths to try again My remortgage is all paid back from house sale and only applied Natwest witi past six months missed couple remorgage payments

I think you can forget getting any kind of credit if you have a couple of missed mortgage payments. This is why Natwest declined your application and this is why any reasonable lender will decline any application for the near future.

What is bad is that you probably a couple of missed mortgage payments registered against you on your credit file, mortgage paid or not, it does not make any difference to a lender. It is a big, big issue with most lenders these days
  • My wife has just applied for a Barclays Platinum card online [in order to balance transfer over from Capital One] and was advised that they needed further information. Today she got a letter saying that they have turned her down as she doesn't meet their criteria? She earns £40K, our joint income exceeds £65K and according to experian we have a perfect credit history. Could it be that as she still has a Santandar/Abbey card (in credit by the way!) which she doesn't use that Barclaycard have used this against her. There doesn't appear to have been any searches done against either of us.

Are Barclaycard being selective and only taking on people with not so perfect credit scores or wanting larger balance transfers.

Will the fact that she has been turned down for "credit" now be annotated on both our credit histories, if so can we do anything about it.

She is going to write to them requesting for details as to why they have declined but your opinions are welcome.

First Barclaycard search Equifax and not Experian, so might be good for you to have a look at credit report with Equifax, just to make sure all is up to date. You could try appealing and ask them if they could give you more specific reasons as to why she was declined. Having another credit card if well managed then that is probably not the issue there. SOme people with excellent credit rating do not always get the credit they want. Barclaycard will have taken many other consideration before making their decision and not only based on your income

Many credit card companies do that. Especially to people with bad rating who cannot move to another card. I have personally never been caught yet. It's all about playing the game and knowing what you are doing.

Madtyke I agree with Stephen, have a look at Equifax as well. Sometimes there could be defaults that can be there by mistake and you can have them challenged and removed.
