mmmm. some people... the forum is for all to post and if you think its a bargain then good for you. the small minded people who criticise other peoples post have nothing better to do than yap..yap..yap.. They obviously sit on a higher plane than us mere mortals. Shame on them,,,shame.
Its nice to get excited about a bargain like we all do but not so nice to be shot down over it. Are we at war?
anyway, good for you Sandra... Its people like you who add life to this place and cheers for the info. Im not into buying a tv and im definitley not into trying to make other people feel small either............

I wasnt shooting anybody down. I was just saying that it was a rear projection and should be put in the title.
The fact that people STILL couldnt see that it was rear projection (even though you DID put it in the initial post) backs up the fact that the title could be more concise and help people getting confused.
I was trying to be helpful, both to the OP and other users.
    Be nice

So was I, but I'm mindful that my posts can ocassionally appear sarcastic when not spoken. Not intended. IIRC the original title just said £699. I would imagine very few people on here would be VAT registered so must pay the vAT inclusive price.
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

Sorry but I'm old. What's the difference between LCD and rear-projection LCD? (Apart from the fact that rear is much larger and you can't see it from the side)

It only allows you to put limited information in the title, so therefore MSE readers can read the full post and make their own minds up. I thought I'd spotted a bargain, if you are not interested then.............
Thanks for posting what you thought (think) to be a bargain. I've been looking for a LCD or plasma TV of 42" or more for about 6 months now. If it wasn't rear projection and it was £699 I would DEFINITELY have bought it, but the rear projection models I've seen have less crisp pictures and restricted viewing angles. Also if a bulb blows it can cost a lot to replace, I've been informed
Thanks to all who post constructively.

  • I have the very same model and paid a lot for it around Xmas time and even at that price I found the TV to be excellent value for money. Feed it with decent source material and the picture takes on an almost 3D look to it.

Currently using it with SKY HD and the picture is to die for especially the previews running on the BBC HD channel.

No problems with viewing angles that some mentioned before. This was more indicative of the older CRT based models - technology has moved on somewhat since then.

At the end of the day only the buyer can be the true judge so get a demo if possible but make sure it is set up properly. Also make sure the set comes with the proper stand as this can cost a fair bit on top otherwise.

Good post, and I've learnt that 3LCD rear projection exists. The posting title really doesn't matter - if you're after an TV you're probably going to have look aren't you?

The Makro price is good, but having just watched the sony infomercial thingy and the complexity of the technology involved I'd be inclined to go for the inclusive 5yrs John Lewis guarantee for the extra £100. After all £20 a year isn't a bad price for what is effectively an aftercare policy and if anything major goes *its up on this beastie it'll cost you an arm and leg to get repaired.

In true money saving mode i'm happy with my 1/2 price bargain sony CRT which I think will be good for at least 5yrs+. Incidentially does anybody else purchase this sort thing using the price divided by the number of years likely use equation? I find it helps restrain those 'oh *od it lets buy it purchases'.
I do hope you're telling the truth?
