depends on the game - something like BF1943 requires quite a bit of bandwidth so a slower connection speed can end up giving long server connections and then timeout/disconnect errors

  • hi exup, the game says it has already downloaded though, does this mean he still has to wait until it is connected, i do appologise for my daftness but dont really know much about this sort of stuff.

Downloading a gamw will just utilise the speed of your connection - same as downloading a file to your PC - It may take 10 minutes or a few hours. However when running the game to connect to the game server some console games tend to need a faster connection speed than others.
The game server (or host) is basically a PC which is running the same game, but modified in some way to allow other people (clients) to connect to that game and interact with each other on the same server.

Comparing games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare II - and Battlefield Bad Company.
Girlfriends son could connect to servers without much of a problem for Call of Duty - but would always get the server timeout problem with Battlefield.
Kept getting error messages like check your network connections. Turned out the wireless signal wasnt strong enough to get a decent connection (we had to use an ethernet cable, until we sorted the wireless).

One problem with console games over PC games is that its difficult to check whether the game server is running. You may be able to download a game (as it would be from a File Server) But if the game server is not running then you may not know.

Just out of interest which game are you trying to play?
