Alba VCR Problem

Hi,
I have a problem with an Alba VCR. It's tuned in ok, but after recording on a blank tape then replaying the same tape all I get is the recorded sound - the picture on the tv is the "live" channel currently being broadcast, rather than the recorded video. I get the same result when trying to play a pre-recorded (e.g. Disney) video tape.

Although old, the VCR is very low mileage (rarely been used) so worn heads shouldn't be an issue. Any ideas please?

p.s. Playing the recorded tape on another VCR gives poor quality sound and a black & white video picture.

Many thanks.
Brian

Try unplugging and reseating the SCART lead at both ends - they are notorious for partially unplugging because the cable is so thick and inflexible.

If that doesn't work, try a different SCART lead that is known to be working on another TV/Video.

BTW, the bad playback on another VCR is no surprise - it's generally caused through very slight differences in head alignment between the two VCRs.
  • Thanks for the reply; I'm not using a SCART cable - the connection is via an RF cable between TV and VCR (the SCART socket on the TV is used for connecting to a separate DVD Player, so no choice in this respect).

    Best Regards,
    Brian
