Is this right?

My husband and I have decided to separate
and I'll be moving back in with my parents until I can find my own place and a job etc.
I have been looking at the Benefits Advisor on Direct Gov and apparently I could claim JSA (£68.20) and CTC (£104.65) until I get a job. Is this right? I would have thought I could only claim JSA or CTC? It's been a while since I was last a single parent and claimed any kind of benefits!

That is correct. JSA is for you, CTC is for the children. You used to get additions to your JSA for the children, but now it is done separately.Gone ... or have I?0

Wow, no wonder people don't want to work! I've spent the last 2 hours working out what I get if I was A) not working
working part time and C) working full time. I need to find the balance between working and the childcare costs. Hoping to find a job around 25hrs that fits in with school (if such job exists!). I'm really surprised with the amount of benefits I could get even with working! 0 -
You would be entitled to childcare costs and WTC if you work 16+hours per week, might also be an idea to get some sort of child support in place also.Colliefrog wrote: »Wow, no wonder people don't want to work! I've spent the last 2 hours working out what I get if I was A) not working

If your parents are working though then this could all be a bit different i think because they also look at who makes up your houshold."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0

I don't think that is the case with the OP getting CTC and JSA, it might be for HB though.jetta_wales wrote: »If your parents are working though then this could all be a bit different i think because they also look at who makes up your houshold.*SIGH*

No they don't. The parents income would not affect the OPs claim for JSA/CTC.0 -

He's not my childs father. But he is being very supportive by helping out with the move and putting my stuff into storage until I get a place of my own.
As for the HB, I presumed I wouldn't claim this until I get my own place?0 -

That's right, you can't claim for the costs associated with living with your parents.0 -

That doesn't matter - the child's father surely must pay child support (except of course if he has died or is in prison).
You would be entitled to HB and CTB if you move out of your parents' home.0 -
