I would be very careful if you try to tighten it, in case the olive splits.

    lol.

    Thought so..

Ice might of damaged it a few weeks ago if its located in a cold place.

Is it likely to have been subjected to ice & this is the first time you have seen it?

If so I doubt tightening it will do anything.
I think its a today issue. OP says its been turned off and on today so someone has been working on it.

    Cheers

You'm a strong person if you can do that. But, seriously, 'tis a thought - if its been overtightened already and the olive crushed then it would be passing.

Thanks for all your help. I couldnt make it budge but DH came home and managed to tighten it and the leaking has stopped. Will see about replacing it though because we have had problems before but it was one of those things we have put off.

Great stuff. Proly be OK but yes you should have it checked out - also the stopcock in the street owned by your water supplier. I've lived in my current place for 24 years but only found out recently that the stopcock in the road that I thought was mine (and which I've never needed to use) actually belongs to next door. Mine had been tarmaced over eons ago! Nice water company reinstated it at no cost to me.

    Cheers
