travelling

I'm planning to go travelling in 20 months time and saving to do so. I have looked into renting my flat out to cover the mortgage payments but the set-up costs far outweight the benefits. I have decided to take a mortgage holiday- I know that the interest will build up for the time out but I really have to do this. Currently my mortgage is with the Halifax and I am now on SVR so I need to change anyway.
I'm planning to travel for 6 months but take 9 months out of work therefore I need at least 8-9 months mortgage free.
I've spent the last year clearing my credit card, overdraft and loans so that I can do this.
Has anyone got a good suggestion for the best deal I can get to make my mortgage flexible and allow me to actually enjoy life?
Thanks
Helen

Difficult this one. A 9 month mortgage holiday may cost a lot in interest.

  • I have absolutely no idea how much interest I'll be paying -have an appointment with mortgage lenders next week but I know they'll only be selling their product- may go back to a broker.- problem is I have to go travelling- I'm 33, no children and earning about 32K/yr.My OH is retiring in 18 months time so we have a sort of protected income the only problem is mortgage payments while we're away. They need to temporarily disappear!!
Do these interst payments really amount to something- I have an 18 yr mortgage of £69,000 (repayment so actually a little lower)- need to find the best lender for the project
