The acer ferrari one looks a cracking little netbook. If you can get past the garish looks.

Low powered athlon, which is quicker than the best atom, and a low power radeon 3200 chipset, wireless N and windows 7. Supports XGP if you need more serious graphic power.

I read an interesting article on the difference between how Windows 7 and Vista and drivers handle 2d graphics.

In a nutshell, an integrated geforce 7100 is better than top of the range radeon 5000 / geforce 200 series in windows 7 at accelerating 2d calls (such as in photoshop / premiere etc). Until ATI and Nvidia fix their drivers (at least ATI acknowledge a problem)

DOnt know a lot on netbooks, but after looking for a friend, one of the best I could see for processor and ram was the Ferrari. May be some new things on the horizon. But they may struggle for any video editing etc as that is not what they are designed for. Maybe a little mroe cash and go for a macbook?

Not sure I would be brave enough to open a ferrari branded laptop in public!, and would love a mac, but they dont make one small enough!

Might leave it now until I get back from honeymoon although that Alienware one is looking tempting apart from the price.

The Timeline 1810TZ comes in plain black, has a dual core processor and 8 hours battery life, is under budget and thrashes the Ferrari in every single category in this benchtest. ;)

Lenovo have released a small 11.6 laptop called the X100e for approx £400, read the PC Pro review here. Looks quite good but think it uses a single core AMD cpu, a dual core version is on the way though!
This would be a wonderful machine - if it had an optical drive (and so ceased being netbook-like)...

That is a bit of a shame, other than that it looks to be a fantastic little laptop. I 'spose you could grab a usb dvd drive like one of these, would probably only need to use it on the odd occasion to install progs or burn the odd cd.

    :)

I've been procrastinating about ordering one since November. I should just do it. Did you get a good price? (I'm also procrastinating about CS4. Adobe are offering half price - just over £300 - until 20th Feb for Elements owners. Must decide).

  • ive seen the viliv s5 and its one of the best netbooks ive seen for the money check them out online .

i believe a whole range of them are coming out this summer so if you can hold on a bit you can get yourself a really cool gadget for a VERY nice price.

Some of the new range will have cameras, act like phones have long battery life are touch screen and some will have retractable keyboards.
I think they are gonna be massive.

I picked it up at £445 from ebuyer, mainly as I found a 5% discount code online and I had a £60 credit note from them.
I suppose I could have got it a little cheaper but I can claim the VAT back so am pleased with that price, and get to trial it out at a film/photo shoot on friday.

    £300 is a great price for CS4, I paid 2.5K :(

Sadly gone are the days when I used to do reviews for a magazine, and used to get to keep what I tested. Not that affected my reviews much ;) Well that Korg soundcard was pretty fab :D

All I now need is a simple program that can copy all the programs I have on my laptop across to the new acer.
