Glass shower screen damaged? How to clean?

Hi,
We have a glass shower enclosure and have recently noticed that there are a lots of marks on the glass that look like water marks or limescale but don't come off despite even the toughest cleaning efforts. We've tried a whole host of chemical shower and bathroom cleaners, washing up liquid, white vinegar and even acids! With no luck.
I don't think it was like this a few weeks ago (at least I never noticed it!) but it has suddenly become very visible. It also now appears to be developing on our glass sink also, but no residue or marks are visible on the tiles in the shower, they come up lovely and shiny with no signs of limescale or anything. Does anyone have any ideas how to get it off?
One thing I did consider was that we had the pump replaced in our boiler a few weeks ago, all of our hot water is directly supplied by the boiler and so I was wondering whether there could be anything inside the new pump (to protect it for example) that flushed out in the hot water when it was first used and has damaged the glass. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening? Although the marks do look a bit like limescale they will not come off and it looks a little bit to me as if the surface of the glass screen has been damaged somehow.
Any thoughts welcome, didn't really want to buy a new shower enclosure if we can get it off somehow!
Thanks

Have a look at www.abrasivesplus.com for specialist grinding and polishing pastes. They probably have a helpline for queries.0

thanks guys, have got some jewellers rouge and also some abrasive polish stuff to try - so far on a small patch the rouge seemed to get some of the marks off which is great! Going to have a proper go at it this weekend and see what works best, hopefully it'll be good as new after my efforts!
Thanks very much for the helpful suggestions :-)0 -
Hi
Is it possible that the glass was treated with something like this and that you are actually removing this product? Just a thought.
