I am asking for help on behalf of myself and the school where I work. I am the ICT Technician, but my wireless knowledge is not brilliant!:o
We have several dlink wireless access points model no dwl2000. One became faulty and we could not get an identical dlink unit, so our supplier sold us a netgear point model no wg602.
The dlink units are using wep, 128bit security, key type ascii, our security password (that users need to connect to the wireless network) is entered in the "key 1" space. keys 2-4 are blank.
I am trying to enter the same details on the netgear unit, but the admin interface is different. I have set wep security 128 bit, but there is no field to set the key type. Under key one, when I try to enter our security password, several digits, such as p, l, u are not recognized.
Am I entering it in the right place? The netgear unit appears to want me to enter a passphrase and then click "generate" to populate the 4 keys. This facility does not exist on the dlink units.
Any help would be appreciated!:)

interface should have a passphrase field and a generate button, the key1 etc will be populated with hexadecimal keys, which is why you cant put pl etc in.
Wep isn't very secure, it's crackable, should be using wpa really.
This may help you to find the hex equivalent of the key if you run it on a working laptop
