M&S Reward and Points Vouchers

Earlier today, I tried to use an Oxfam M&S £5 off voucher (which stated that it could be used with any other M&S offer) with a 3 times points voucher when making a purchase using my MSCard. I was informed that the points voucher could not be used as the whole of the purchase price had to be covered by the MSCard. This came as a surprise to me as I have been using Oxfam vouchers, Reward vouchers and multi-point vouchers together with my MSCard for the past 2 years without any problems.
A more 'helpful' assistant said that she would put the points voucher through the till but she couldn't guarantee that the additional points would be added to my MSCard account. 'Surely' I said, 'your till will reject an invalid voucher'? Silence followed.
The Duty Store Manager was called and he thought the transaction would be valid but he would speak to HO and get back to me. To date, no response.
At best, M&S needs to look again at its staff training: at worst, and more worryingly, innocent shoppers may have been handing in additional points vouchers which have not been honoured.
Can anybody throw some light on what might be going on? How can a M&S customer check that the additional points have been credited?
