Hmm I will never understand why people pay through the nose, cough thousands, for a item on 4 wheels to get you to A-B.

The flashier it is the more likely some jealous !!!!! will scratch it. Better off keeping your wealth in the form of bonds, saving accounts.

  • My dad didn't want me to buy a second hand car at 17, he said it would cost a fortune in repairs, he would probably have to rescue ne when I broke down and there would also have been mot's etc to pay on an old car. I opted to pay £5k for a new car (albeit not on finance) and still have it 8 years later.

My hubby (my boyfriend at the time) opted to pay a few hundred quid for an old car, it cost a fortune to insure (more likely to break down and easier to break into). It cost him a fair bit to get it up to scratch (far more than he paid for it) and he kept it for a couple of months before he realised the car was only good for scrap!
    Jan 2010 - Overdraft £9,500 / Credit Cards £5,000 / Loan £9,500 / Mortgage £128,000
    Jun 2010 - Overdraft £0 / Credit Card £0 / Loan £0 / Mortgage £125,250
    Oct 2011 - Overdraft £7,000  / Mortgage £115,295
    Dec 2014 - Overdrafts 15,000 / Credit Cards 16,000 / Loans 25,000 / Cars 18,000 / Mortgages 232,500

I don't mind him having a new car Laura- but do you think it's right that he gets into debt (at 17) for goodness knows how long for one when he can save for a year and buy one without that noose of debt?
