Raising an existing bed
Hiya,
I'm thinking about turning an existing patch into a raised bed, the only problem being that I planted some asparagus at one end of it last year.
Would it be OK to leave the asparagus in place and raise the bed by, say 9 inches or so, by carefully piling earth up around the plants?
Pete

In my experience asparagus will tolerate some swamping with soil or compost. Not sure if 9 inches might be too much for it though. Maybe you could do half one year and half the next, to give the asparagus a fighting chance?
Either that or carefully lift the asparagus (now, as it's still dormant), raise the bed and replant? As it's only a year old it'll probably cope, though you might set back your picking for another year.0
