you could probably just about squeeze a panda (with some haggling).

£9195 would get a new 100HP Panda from Fiatsupasaver

with scrappage ive seen them as low as £7495
yes i do have a soft spot for the 100HP :o

so for the OP thats the top spec, other models should be cheaper from there

Not sure I would nessecarily agree with that given some of the stories I hear on here and other sites. Gimme something simple without multiple electrick widgets anyday.

I'm afraid that's what people do on Forums, they are not indicative of a whole market. Not many cars available these days without electrics and I doubt a 1970's Frog Eyed Sprite would prove that reliable as a daily driver.

JD Power produce the largest Independant survey of all cars in the UK every year. In 2009 they surveyed 16,000 3 year old car owners. In the reliability section the results are as follows, not many Hyundi's, Chevrolet's or Kia's I'm afraid:

    Top 10 Most Reliable Cars
    1. Honda Civic
    2. BMW 3 Series
    3. Honda Jazz
    4. Honda Accord
    5. BMW 5 Series
    6. Audi A4
    7. Mercedes Benz C-Class
    8. Mini
    9. Toyota Avensis
    10. Volkswagen Golf

Top 10 Most Reliable Car Manufacturers

    1. BMW
    2. Honda
    3. Audi
    4. Toyota
    5. Volkswagen
    6. Mercedes-Benz
    7. Ford
    8. Mazda
    9. Nissan
    10. Skoda

For what you save in maintenance you'll pay for in fuel.

No offence, but I think you're mad to buy a new car. Your basing your decision on low running costs (£35 road tax) but completely ingnoring depreciation. An Hyundi i10 will depreciate £2,363 in it's first year - that's £200 per month. For £6,000 you could buy a 3 year old Fiesta 1.25 Zetec or Honda Jazz 1.4DSi with less than 30,000. Both of which are considreably better and bigger than the cars your looking at, are very reliable and cheap to run. Let someone else get hit by the depreciation and pick up a bargain.

I know you'll get the warranty with a new car, but modern cars are far more reliable than they used to be.

    I agree - I've just bought a 3 year old Vauxhall Astra 1.6 for £5900 with a year's warranty :). 28k miles on the clock.

The same car brand new? Something daft like £15,000.

Very unlikely since they were only made up to 1961.

A 60s or 70s non-frogeye Sprite, if looked after properly can be surprisingly reliable as a daily driver.
